Port Arthur and the Tasman Peninsula are rich with both history and natural beauty. On the 90 minute drive there you will drive past places like Eagle Hawk Neck, the Tessellated Pavement, Pirate Bay, Devil’s Kitchen, the Blowhole, DooTown (where all the houses have “Doo” in their name), Stuart’s Bay Reserve, and others. Once you reach Port Arthur you are struck with history stemming back to the beginnings of Australian settlement. Port Arthur Historic Site is a ticketed attraction but worth the price when you walk through the site. Port Arthur also offers tours such as the famous ghost tour, the Isle of the Dead tour and point Puer Boy’s Prison Tour. If you are still keen to go further, places like Crescent Bay with its stunning views from atop its steep sand dunes. Reachable by an 8km walk, it is perfect for those keen on an easy hike, and the reward is mesmerising.
